What is Eko Skola?

Eko-Skola is an international programme of environmental and sustainable developmental education. It guides schools on their journey towards learning about sustainable development issues and sustainable practices, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. This is achieved by empowering students to adopt an active role in environmental decision-making and action in their school and in their community.

Students are the driving force behind Eco-Schools. Through consultation with the rest of the school and the wider community, it is the students that decide which environmental themes they want to address and how they are going to do it. Schools work towards gaining one of three awards - Bronze, Silver and the prestigious Green Flag award, which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity.

St.Patrick's School joined the Eko-Skola Programme in 2009. The school started to work in depth on the themes of Recycling and Re-using Materials and Healthy Living. It has successfully achieved the Silver award certificate and the prestigious Green Flag award. This award testifies the school's commitment in strengthening pupil leadership and whole school involvement.
