European Schools Sports Day
Last Friday, 13th October, St. Patrick’s School celebrated the European School Sports Day. After the first break, the Y9s, Y10s and Y11s met Mr. Nicky Farrugia, a Triathlete champion, where he shared his sporting experience with the boys.
He talked about a dream he had when he was just a kid, he was fascinated by Turu Rizzo’s attempt at swimming from Sicily to the Maltese Islands. Farrugia did succeed in doing so in 1985, when he became the first man to swim the 87km distance, from Ragusa to Marsalforn, in 30 hours and 17 minutes.
After the talk, the whole school, including the Y7s and Y8s, were divided into two groups, with one group going for a 40-minute walk, while the rest were divided into teams to compete in a mini basketball tournament.
The last 40 minutes, the whole school, together with the school staff, played a mini football tournament. After the break, the boys settled back into their classes to watch a sporting video.
