New Athletics Season
The Athletics Team of St Patrick’s Salesian school has opened its sports calendar year by participating in the first official race which was organised by OASI Foundation, Gozo. Prior to the race the athletes hailing from various age groups engaged themselves in intense training sessions both during school hours and in track fitness after school hours. The training was held at St Aloysius’ College athletics track.
On Saturday 5th October the group travelled to Gozo for a sleepover at Dar Marija Assunta in Għarb. The main aim was to prepare for the race early in the morning the next day. The live-in consisted of a swim at Ħondoq Bay, cooking healthy food together and a formation session on the eve of the race. The lads will most certainly remember the star-gazing experience at San Dimitri Chapel in Għarb. The skies were simply fascinating!
On the 6th October everyone woke up excited for the race as early as 5.30AM. The 10K, 5K and 2.8k races were to start at different times. Our athletes have given their utmost to obtain personal bests. The seasoned runners like Fr Johan Bugeja obtained a photo-finish 2nd place in the 5K while our junior beginners were truly impressive with their excellent pace.
Faithful to the Salesian spirit we believe that sports keeps body, mind and spirit alive empowering youngsters to become Good Christians and honest citizens!
